Preparedness activities include:

The Department also manages grant programs when available to assist with the purchase of new emergency response equipment. Emergency response training and exercises are also coordinated by the Department. The Department also participates in regional emergency management activities, such as the Central Virginia Emergency Management Alliance, the Central Virginia All Hazards Incident Management Team, and other regional groups.
Response
Response activities include assisting and coordinating the response activities of all Amelia County emergency response agencies. This coordination could be both in the field at emergency incidents as well as coordination of the Amelia County Emergency Operations Center. The Emergency Operations Center is the location where county's agency leaders as well as political leaders will gather to coordinate the county response to major incidents.
Recovery
Recovery activities include the coordination of recovery programs after disaster situations. These recovery programs could include federal programs such as Individual Assistance or Public Assistance declarations, as well as other state and non-profit programs.
Mitigation
Mitigation activities include actions taken to lessen the impact of disasters. Amelia County participates in a regional Hazard Mitigation Plan and program. The Department coordinates with regional partners in development and update of these plans and activities.

Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Commonwealth Regional Council (CRC) is working on an update of the CRC’s Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan. This plan will cover all seven (7) counties in Planning District 14, which includes Amelia County. As part of the planning process, FEMA requests that the draft plan be made available for public review and comment.
