Building Department

Jerry  Wayne Williams serves as the Amelia County Building Official and is responsible for enforcing state and local building codes on construction projects within the County.

Like jurisdictions across the Commonwealth, the Amelia County Building Inspector's Office is responsible for enforcement of the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code (VUSBC). Currently, the VUSBC references the following model building codes:

  • Commercial Construction: 2018 edition of the Virginia Construction Code
  • Electrical: 2017 edition of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
  • Energy Conservation 2018 edition of the Virginia Energy Conservation Code 
  • Gas: 2018 edition of the Virginia Fuel Gas Code
  • Mechanical: 2018 edition of the Virginia Mechanical Code
  • Plumbing: 2018 edition of the Virginia Plumbing Code
  • Residential Construction: 2018 edition of the Virginia Residential Code
  • Solar: 2017 edition of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70)
  • Swimming Pools: 2018 edition of the Virginia Residential Code
