The Amelia County Department of Social Services is a public agency serving the citizens of Amelia County. Our mission is to help our eligible customers meet basic needs through financial assistance, promote self-sufficiency in our customers through employment-related services, and help protect children and vulnerable adults through services designed to reduce the risk of abuse and neglect.Trained staff are on call 24 hours a day for emergency response to child abuse/neglect. The Amelia County Department of Social Services provides various services and financial assistance to the citizens of Amelia County. These include but are not limited to: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) formerly known as food stamps, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (families with dependent children), Medicaid, seasonal assistance for heating and cooling, adoption, child support services, foster care, adult and child protection services and child day care.
