Permits And Forms
** Please Note: FLOOR JOIST INSPECTION (prior to placement of subfloor) on houses with crawlspaces is a required inspection beginning January 15, 2024**
All Permits
- A completed Building Permit Application.
- Contractors must furnish a copy of their valid Virginia Contractors License.
- Applicants not required by law to be licensed as contractors must submit a written statement, supported by an affidavit, that he/she is not subject to licensure as a contractor, subcontractor or owner-developer. The affidavit must be notarized which can be done through our office provided one of our notaries is available.
- This statement may be obtained from the Building Inspector's Office or on our Forms and Applications page. The Trade application has this form on the back side of it.
- All dwellings or commercial structures, requiring public or private sanitation or water connection, need to go through the Building Department prior to the Health Department or Sanitation Department of the Public Works office to ensure the proper approval process is followed. If the building will use a private sewage disposal system and/or a private water source, a completed Commonwealth of VA Application for Sewage Disposal and/or Water Supply Permit shall be submitted to the Health Department along with the Building Permit application after paying the associated $25 Admin fee at the Treasurer's office.
- Deed (If property owned less than two years).
In addition to the requirements for all permits:
- Two sets of plans and specifications must accompany every building permit application.
- One recorded plat showing the location of the proposed structure on the lot with all setbacks dimensioned.
- Signature on the following forms:
- Shrink/well form.
- Signature on erosion and sediment control form.
- Either Required Inspections (or) Required Inspections for Manufactured Housing
- Veneer Inspection (not applicable to manufactured house)
- House Numbering Requirements
- Sealed Set of Drawings notification (not applicable to manufactured house)
- Contractor Affidavit (if applicant is not a contractor licensed to apply for the intended work)
Mobile Homes
In addition to the requirements for all permits:
- Year of mobile home (must be 1976 or newer) proof required
- If applying online, please email all completed applications and receipt of payment(s) to permit.tech@ameliacova.com.
- If paying online, please call to confirm amount prior to submitting payment. All payments can be made at Online Building Payment System.
