The Treasurer is the chief financial officer for Amelia and is responsible for collecting taxes, local fees and making payments on behalf of the local government. The Treasurer is responsible for every form of revenue and also manages the investment of local funds and maintain records of local finances.

The elected post of Treasurer was created in the Virginia Constitution of 1870. The Treasurer's independent status as an elected official ensures that local funds will be collected, invested and spent by an officer who reports directly to the people.

Amelia County Vehicle Decal Information

 
In 2007, the Amelia County Board of Supervisors, in order to save County residents time and transportation costs, elected, like many State jurisdictions, to allow Amelia residents to purchase “permanent vehicle decals”. Consequently, the last time our citizens had to stand in line to purchase a decal for their car, motorcycle, trailer or truck was April 15, 2007. 
 
Please note that Amelia County still requires its citizens to display a decal on each vehicle owned in the County as of January 1 with a valid State license plate.    New residents can purchase decals at the Treasurer’s Office within 30 days of becoming a resident of Amelia. After the initial purchase, a license tax will be billed on their personal property bill.
 
To this end, since 2007 a citizen of Amelia has the following options:
 
1.      To purchase a decal for a new car
 
2.      To purchase a duplicate (transfer) decal if replacing a previously owned car
 
Additionally, as a result of this change, the County of Amelia instead of an “annual decal” fee now has a license tax on your annual personal property bill. This tax is based upon each vehicle, trailer, or motorcycle that has a valid state license plate as of January 1 for the billing year. Should a car that receives this tax need a decal during the year, it can be obtained for free after the license tax is paid.

There will be a fee from the charge cards ranging from $1.00 to 2.75% of amount charged, whichever is greater.

eCheck is now available.  Payments made using eCheck will be subject to a service charge of $3.95 for amounts up to $9999.99 and $15.00 for amounts of $10,000 or greater.
