The Amelia County Extension Office
Mission and Vision of Virginia Cooperative Extension
The Virginia Cooperative Extension enables people to improve their lives through an educational process that uses scientific knowledge focused on issues and needs (Revised July 1994).
The Amelia County Extension Office, a cooperative venture between the Federal Government, the Commonwealth of Virginia and Amelia County, provides a wide variety of programs and services to the youth and adults of Amelia County. Working in cooperation with neighboring County Offices the Extension Office also provides much needed and vitally important professional resources to the entire Heartland Region.
Building on the strength of Amelia's agriculture, natural resources, family and community heritage, the Extension Office enables people to shape their futures through research based educational programs. Recognizing that knowledge is power, Amelia's Extention Agents serve people where they live and work. Audiences are involved in designing, implementing and evaluating needs-driven programs. Extention Offices are dynamic organizations that stimulate positive personal and societal change that leads to more productive lives, families, farms, and forests, as well as a better environment in urban and rural communities.
Funded in part by Amelia County and located at the County Administrative Building 16360 Dunn Street, the Amelia Cooperative Extension Office offers a wide variety of activities, ranging from educational to recreational events and excels in meeting the program and service needs of Amelia County and our Region. An annual Farm Day delights the youth of Amelia and Summer Camp at Holiday Lake is always a crowd pleaser; but perhaps the Amelia Extension Offices most unique program is the Amelia “Fencing Team”!
The Amelia Office currently is comprised of four full-time employees and is managed by Ms. Jane Henderson (Unit Coordinator and Extension Agent, Family & Consumer Sciences (FCS), Mr. Kevin Camm, (4-H & Youth Development), and Ms. Janet Crews, (Unit Administrative Assistant) and one vacant position.
Like Extension Offices throughout the Commonwealth, the Amelia Extension Office works closely and in collaboration with the many Departments and Agencies of Amelia County. These efforts primarily focus on responding to the needs of families, groups ,organizations and individuals by providing educational (and recreational) programs and services in three essential areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources; Family and Consumer Science and 4-H Youth Development.
