Thomas E. Harris, County Administrator serves as the Director of Economic Development for Amelia County as well as the Secretary and Clerk to The Amelia County Industrial Development Authority (IDA).

The Amelia County IDA was established and appointed by the Amelia County Board of Supervisors to assist the Governing Body in addressing economic development in the County, and is Amelia's lead agent for economic development.

Currently the IDA is responsible for the Amelia County Industrial Park, conveniently located on US Route 360 and along with the Amelia County Planning Commission reviews proposed economic development projects. The Amelia County IDA also makes, through the County Administrator, recommendations to both the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors on economic development issues and concerns.

The seven (7) IDA Members are appointed by the Amelia County Board of Supervisors and serve four (4) year terms. While there is no requirement, the Board of Supervisors trys to insure that each of the County's five voting districts are represented at all times on the IDA.
