Amelia County Board of Supervisors January 28, 2009
The Amelia County Board of Supervisor's is the governing body for Amelia County, Virginia. Each of Amelia's five electoral districts has one Supervisor to represent District residents. The Supervisor is elected to a four-year staggered term (three supervisors elected at one election and two the following election). The Board of Supervisors is responsible for all County Policies and makes decisions on rezoning and other land-use matters, passes ordinances, sets the annual County Budget and tax rates, and, in general, directs the County Government. The Board hires a County Administrator to direct the day to day activities and functions of the County and also appoints citizens to various commissions and agencies to implement specific policies or to provide a wide array of necessay programs and services. On Wednesday January 20, 2010, the Board of Supervisors unanimously re-appointed The Honorable Franklin D. Harris (District 5) as Chairman of the Board and District 1 Supervisor,The Honorable Ellsworth "Jim" Bennett, as the Vice-Chairman. Chairman Harris expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Board for their continued support and respect, while Vice-Chairman Bennett thanked the Governing Body for their faith in him and promised to continue to address, with the help and cooperation of the Chairman, Board and County Staff the needs of Amelia County to the best of his abilities.

WHEREAS, professional telecommunicators perform a cirtical function when an emergency occurs requiring a law enforcement, fire, or ambulance and/or other emergency response; and
WHEREAS, thousands of dedicated telecommnicators daily serve the citizens of the United States by answering their calls for Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services and then dispatching the appropirate assistance as quickly as possible; and
WHEREAS, professional telecommunicators are critical to Amelia County's emergency response and homeland security services, dispatching Law Enforcement, Firefighters, Emergency Medical Services, and other emergency responders twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week; and
WHEREAS, professional telecommunicators, while not always as visible as the men and women who arrive on the scene of emergencies, provide the essential and critically important link to public safety services, as part of the first responder team; and
WHEREAS, Amelia County, Virginia, is blessed with dedicated and professional Telecommunicators.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Amelia County Board of Supervisors does hereby proclaim the week of April 10-17, 2010, as
National Public Safety Telemcommunicators Week
in Amelia County in honor and recognition of our Telecommunicators and the vital contributions that they make to the health, safety and well being of our citizens.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of the Amelia County National Public Safety Telecommunicators Proclamation be placed on the Amelia County Web site; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that a copy fo this Proclamation be provided to each County Telecommunicator and placed in the Minute Book of the Amelia County Board of Supervisors so that future generations will see and understand the value, appreciation and deep respect the Amelia County Board of Supervisors, Staff and Citizens of Amelia have for each of our County Telecommunicators.
